Home and Garden Television (HGTV) is giving away a green home next year! The station wants to, “create a beautiful, comfortable home that provides affordable examples for consumers who want to minimize their impact on the environment.”
What makes the home green? It will consist of eco-friendly materials, natural fabrics and energy saving appliances. Examples of natural building materials include: straw bale, cob, adobe, bamboo and compressed earth blocks.
The great thing about a green home is that it is not just ecologic, but economic too! The GBI reports the average home or business can save up to 50% on utility costs by going green. With the completion of HGTV’s first green home they hope to show viewers, “you don’t have to be extreme to be green.”
The location for the home is not set in stone just yet. Check HGTV’s site regularly for updates. And, the green home is not in place of their regular dream home. The green home will be in addition to the HGTV Dream Home 2008 in Florida, both custom built and fully furnished.

i love that you are going green i wish my home was we bought this home as is and need to do a lot of work and wish we could go all green but we have had a hard time finding contractors to do the work we have a large family and not a lot of money i wish my home was as nice
